Our Horses

The breed of horse that we use is the Percheron. Percherons are either black or gray in color and are known for their sensitive personalities, their eagerness to work and their beauty, especially their refined faces. The breed originated in France during the Medieval Age. Their size was needed to carry the nights in armour into battle.

Our horses usually work in teams of two. Usually the horses that make up a team are the same size and color and they may be together their whole lives.

Hi - I am the oldest horse on the ranch. I think that means I have the most experience. I am used or put to work all over. You will often see me giving 'Private Tours" for two on Blackcomb Mountain. Sometimes my owner thinks I am hard to get along with - especially with the other horses - but when you've been around as long as I have you DO HAVE Senority.

Jim

My name is Jim and my partner is Jake. We work on Blackcomb Mountain. Jake and I work well together. We are a seasoned team. Sometimes we help to train new horses - I am pround to be depended on for such an important task!!

Chief

Breed: Percheron gelding
Colour: Dappled grey
Age: 10 years
Height: 18.3 hands
Weight: Approximately 1900lbs.

I'm known as a "Ladies'Man". I am the biggest horse around here but have the mildest temperament. I enjoy being petted and pampered. I often work on my own pulling the fancy Private Sleigh Tours at the Nicklaus North Golf Course. Come see me there!

Height: 16.5 hands
Weight: Approximately 1900lbs.

Hi, my name is Tom - Jerry is my buddy. We work at the Nicklaus North Golf Course. Our owner brags that we are a very dependable team. I do not get to excited anymore. I just like to eat and sleep most of the time. If Jerry would only let me. Although, I have noticed lately that my rump is expanding. Is this what they call -"middle age" spread??

Hello - I'm Jack and I am new to the ranch. My partner Rowdy and I arrived this summer. We were logging horses. We love this easier life much better. I especially love to be petted.
I do not mind my picture taken either.

Rowdy

Age: 12 yrs.
Height: 16 hands

I'm Jack's partner Rowdy. We look almost identical. However, I'm not as layed back as Jack. I am a bit nervous and timid around others and Whistler is an intimidating place. Hopefully, Jack will help me out. I am starting to enjoy being petted and groomed. Please be patient with me - I do love it here!

Jake here - I'm Jim's team mate. We work very well together and I love and prefer to work with him. We sometimes help train others and you will see us with different horses on occasion. It takes me a long time to trust and adjust to new situations. Jim is much better at this than I am. Even so, our owner beleives we are a good solid team.

Hi there - this is also my second year here. I have been in training and taking turns with Jim and Jake. I am getting use to the skiers and snowboarders. Sometimes things sill startle me but I am getting better.
